Kristin Texeira Installation

Kristin Texeira’s vibrant abstract oil paintings will be on view at Bodega (6 Clearway St. Boston) this fall as part of a solo exhibition titled “wherever I've been and gone”.  Mounted above the racks of carefully selected clothing will be a new series of colorful memory map paintings, each encased behind a crisp frame.  Along with the paintings, Texeira has also sewed up a limited number of custom sweatshirts, each featuring a different, large quilted patch made from vintage fabrics. resembling her paintings.  A fundraising print(edition of 50, printed by Trifecta Editions) by Texeira for the Boston Art Book fair will also be on debut at the opening.

The works, which will be on view through the end of the year, feature chunky color blocks.  These shapes represent the artist’s memories of certain places.   Keeping a journal to document the present and remember the past, Texeira draws upon inspiration from her writing for her paintings.  Using a palette knife, she applies the oil paint, in clean, sharp lines, using colors to communicate with the viewer.

Growing up in Massachusetts, Texeira has enjoyed drawing and painting since her childhood.  After Graduating from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2010, she went on to participate in numerous art exhibits throughout the United States and internationally.  Based in New York, she currently works out of a sun-filled studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

“This series of works is inspired by places where I have lived or traveled to. Within the collection are cities and towns known to many but, within these places I highlight subtle moments of existence. The totems, shapes, and colors act as entities that allow me to reenter a memory and share the specifics of a moment.”

To kick off the exhibit, an opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 9th 2017 at Bodega’s 6 Clearway Street location.  Curated by Kate Ostreicher, formally of Lot F Gallery, contact nutritiousart@gmail.com with any questions.  Available works will be for sale on the Bodega website starting Tuesday, September 12th and  “wherever I've been and gone” will be on view at the store through the end of the year.
