Behind the Design: Bodega x Todd Snyder "City Limits" Collection

In our New England-inspired heritage collection with Todd Snyder, we turned our love for layering up into a reimagined wardrobe for the “outdoors”, a phrase we take very literally.

So whether sourcing fish from the lake upstate or the monger uptown, bracing the wind tunnel on the mountain or in the alley, or hiking on leaves and dirt or cold hard concrete, versatility has never looked so timeless.

Focusing on the essential ingredients for an introduction to autumn, our range updates traditional staples that have served people for generations, with a new approach to functional detailing.

With our Guide Jacket, the first thing you notice is the lush layering of the tree line. Pulling from shades rooted in greens and blues, including Smoke Pine and Balsam, the spirit of the forest is alive and well outside the 4 walls of modern life. Beyond the tree trim, the jacket's design embraces the outdoorsman tradition and is made from a tightly woven custom wool from Pantex. Finished with a speckled liner from Three Looms, it features angular hunting pockets referencing a long line of hunting jackets from the early to mid-20th century while the attached D-ring pays respect to early fishing garb. Closed out with a multi-use pocket on the left bicep translated from the MA-1 bomber used in the USAF throughout the 50s and 60s, this jacket is daring you to try and find a situation you won't be prepared for. And we haven’t even mentioned the custom snap buttons, 2-way snag-proof front zipper, and inner stash pockets yet!

For a trip on the lighter weight side, the Reversible Down Bomber takes cues from field jacket liners historically known for their distinct hourglass quilting. Fitted with a mixture of camo felted wool and drab nylon to conquer any environment, it picks up where the Guide Jacket left off, with co-branded snaps, a heavy-duty zipper with a rawhide pull tab, and a D-ring accessory. Closed out with a single chest pocket, patch pockets, and a ribbed neck and collar combo, this mil-surp staple just got an upgrade and isn’t turning back anytime soon.

Changing the narrative around holiday knits, our Train Fair Isle Crew is a jacquard sweater getting turned away at every ugly sweater party we've tested it at. Inspired by a long tradition of novelty knits that use anything from airplanes and rocket ships to reindeer as reference, our lambswool joint keeps the train on track. Inspired by old-school locomotives, our pattern goes 360 degrees, giving you unobstructed views. Fitted with raglan sleeves for full freedom and knit ends to block out the cold - as if the coal isn’t toasty enough- don’t expect any dusty soot to ruin the mood. Combining a Pistachio Shell base coat, hints of Olive, Dark Blue, and Cranberry help it leave the station right on schedule. And with our Matching Sweater Sock in tow highlighting the same level of detail and craftsmanship, there is nothing left to say besides 'all aboard!'

Living up to its name, the Corduroy Shacket in Black combines ease, warmth, and layering power with its hybrid design. Made from a medium wale corduroy, our version of a welding shirt comes fitted with horn buttons on the placket and calls back Three Looms wool/poly fabric to reinforce the elbows and undercollar. A double-layer chest panel reminiscent of 1930s CCC era denim pullovers provides the finishing touches, introducing a new dimension of storage with the crown jewel being that snap flap option on the left side.

Its below deck counterpart are the Corduroy Pants in Black, our take on the carpenter pants keeping the knees of manual laborers protected for the better part of 90 years. Centering around their ‘double knee’ panels which add a geometric kick, additional specs like a hammer loop, lower leg pocket (to compliment its 5-pocket design) and leather patch ensure building a log cabin or just staying in one will go off without a hitch.

Closing things out are the Herringbone Cargo Pants in a golden khaki which pull from various eras of military fatigue to create a brand new design ready to field test. Featuring flap pockets with horn buttons around back and custom snap cargo pockets on each leg, storage just became a non-issue. Coming in a straight silhouette, drawstrings at the ankles and waist help tailor the fit while the HBT fabric provides a nice change of pace from plain weaves. Not to mention added durability without the thickness. However, when all is said and done, it’s the pleated front hip pocket that seals the deal, breaking up the symmetry with an unexpected functional flourish. A sentiment that ties together the whole collection if you think about it.
