Typically, Milan is the go to locale when Italian fashion is being name dropped, but Sneakers76 has placed Taranto, a picturesque costal city in Italy’s southeastern boot heel, squarely on the fashion map.
Founded as a Spartan colony, Taranto was one of the largest cities in the ancient world, and back then, any decent city needed a good founding myth. Saucony and Sneakers76 have teamed up on a collaborative Shadow 5000 that pays tribute to the legendary origins of Taranto. According to the story, Taras, son of Poseidon, god of the sea was rescued from a shipwreck by a dolphin that his dear old dad was kind enough to send, and the city was established on the site where he stepped ashore.
The red, grey, and blue colorway is taken from Taranto’s coat of arms, while the rich, brown accenting is inspired by the wood construction used in the Sneakers76 store. The premium suede and leather materials used are only fitting for a city of such heroic origins. An embossed, trident logo on the tongue stamp provides the finishing touch, and serves as a reminder of Taranto’s original benefactor.
