Finding novel ways to present Converse classics like the Chuck Taylor All Star and the One Star can present a considerable challenge. Between them, the All Star and the One Star boast over a century and a half of history. Then there’s the fact that one of the most prized attributes of these iconic silhouettes is their uncluttered, no frills design. So how does anyone go about putting a new spin on these old favorites?
Leave it to Midnight Studios to solve this problem with a simple yet unexpected use of their punk inspired, lo-fi innovation, by turning the shoes inside out. A technique usually applied as a last resort to squeeze one more wear out of a shirt that really should have made its way to the laundry by now, actually offers up a chic, modern sensibility, thanks to the tonal, off white palette and technical text and iconography usually hidden away on the insides of sneakers.
It’s a thoroughly contemporary reinterpretation, that doesn’t sacrifice the essential character of these classics.
