Nike Sportswear

One of Nike’s earliest inroads into becoming a major player in the athletic shoe market was the road running explosion. Recreational running in Europe was, at the time, more commonly done on trails, and many of the popular running shoes manufactured on the continent were geared towards this style of running. In the US, runners complained of not getting the kind of support they needed to deal with the stress that an unforgiving asphalt surface put on the body. This gap in the market was happily filled by Nike and their myriad technological innovations over the years, sending them on their way to global juggernaut status.

What better showcase could there be for a company that made its name outfitting runners than the oldest annually marathon in the world? Nike’s 2016 Boston Marathon collection features the natural motion concept that has revolutionized the entire notion of what running shoes do.

The Nike Free Run Distance adds Lunarlon with flex grooves to add the extra cushioning that long distance runs demand to the natural motion model, while remaining lightweight and responsive. The Zoom Streak LT 3 is a dynamic, lightweight racing flat style shoe, suited over shorter distances for runners who prefer a minimal feel.

All three 2016 Boston models subtly incorporate the traditional blue and yellow livery of the B.A.A., along with Boston branding, into their own colorways. That kind of quiet confidence is a luxury that true legends are afforded.
