When Kobe Bryant started his legendary NBA career, his feet were clad in the three stripes. With Kobe’s final curtain call behind him, Adidas offers up a tribute to the Lakers icon that nicely bookends his career.
Kobe is most commonly known by his Black Mamba nickname, but in 2013, after a particularly impressive performance, a personal friend bestowed the moniker ‘Vino’ on Kobe, to signify that, like wine, the future hall of famer was improving with age.
Adidas uses this recent name to inform the design of two shoes from Kobe’s early career, the Top Ten 2000, which he wore upon first entering the league, and the Crazy 8 (formerly the KB 8,) Kobe’s first signature shoe.
Being wine themed, the shoes naturally are offered in red and white. The Top Ten 2000 features a white colorway that pairs well with rich fish and white meat, while the Crazy 8 is a rich, deep red merlot. Both colorways feature cork detailing and wine label tongue graphics.
