If the Vans Sk8-Hi and the classic Engineer Boot were people, they would, despite rarely hanging around together, have all the same mutual friends. The engineer boot has been a staple of subculture style for decades, from greasers to goths to punks and bikers, in other words, the sort of people who would be found reaching for a pair of Vans when sneakers are required over heavy boots.
Vans collaborator Taka Hayashi has arranged a meeting between these footwear styles. The Vans skate favorite borrows rugged leather, and buckle straps from the engineer boot, which lends the casual silhouette of the Sk8-Hi an elevated sense of fashion. The back strap reads ‘Desturir,” Spanish for “Destroy,” as a nod to both shoes’ subculture roots.
