The legendary Superstar and the instant classic ZX Flux are two of the most popular models Adidas has. They have been the subject of countless collaborations and interpretations in pretty much any colors or materials you care to name. Still, there’s always another step to take. Case in point, how many shoes include part of an officially UNESCO designated masterpiece of distinct cultural heritage?
Adidas Consortium and Singapore’s Limited Etd present a collaborative edition of these two Adidas staples that uniquely influenced by the traditional culture of Southeast Asia. Floral patterns in the style of batik fabric, an intricate dyeing process that can take up to a year to complete, are featured prominently on these shoes.
The ZX Flux features the design as an all-over print on a navy background, while the black, leather Superstar takes a more subtle approach, and places the pattern on the shoe’s inner lining. The floral designs are accented by metallic, rose gold embellishments. On the ZX Flux, the external heel support, and on the Superstar, the iconic shelltoe is rendered entirely in rose gold. The results give a new meaning to the word refined, as regards sneakers. The batik patterns and gold accents make these the first Adidas shoes that could double as a frighteningly expensive tea set.
Limited Etd is a parter that truly lives up to its name; we can’t imagine, even with all the Superstars and ZX Fluxes on the streets, that you’ll see many more like these.
