Originally coined the “Afro Pack”, the new Pharrell Williams x adidas Originals “SOLARHu” collection introduces three new NMD Hu pairs and two Tennis Hu V2 pairs filled with colorful and vibrant tribal patterns. Inspired by East African culture, the collaboration serves to continue inspiring positivity and celebrate “unity, equality, humanity, and color”, as stated by Pharrell in a GQ interview. Continuing the Hu innovative and personable legacy, this drop is meant to honor the East African culture and its principles.
Featuring Pharrell Williams x adidas’s staple messages along the NMD uppers, words like the Swahili terms ‘Miele’ (forever) and Mbele’ (forward), and English ones ’Mother’, Land’, ‘Empower’, and ‘Inspire’ contrast with the orange/blue, red/blue, and yellow/black colorways to present an appealing and impactful message. The classic BOOST midsole remains on each version, while a new trail-style rubber sole serves to increase traction and add “spunk” to the already praised silhouette. To finish off the designs, newly innovative and colorful rubber-caged lacing systems are utilized to accent each individual colorway.
The collection also includes two new versions of the Tennis Hu V2 design, with one coming in a rich, red colorway, and the other in a crisp yellow. Both uppers present the classic, knit design, along with a fresh spin on the lacing system to maintain the shoe’s renown comfort. The flat sole then adds a clean and sophisticated finish to the shoe, making it a perfect purchase for the upcoming Fall months.
Carrying the designs across a complete look, the East African aesthetic is also used on an accompanying jacket. The jacket features a burgundy and red backdrop, with a multi-colored, V-shaped tribal pattern along the collar, along with blue and red plaid accents at the cuffs. Similar to the NMD sneakers, the sleeves feature the words ‘Mother Land’, and is lined off with the brand’s classic 3-stripes in white to create a sleek and impressive piece.
