An unusual superstition took hold in the Western districts. Street stall fortune tellers were always popular there, but the chem clouds pretty much killed off the kind of business ventures that involved being outside for prolonged periods of time, waiting for walk through traffic. Someone got the bright idea to meet the demand for spur of the moment divination with android torsos. Like the old-fashioned novelty booths, except with a standard AI program. They would dispense print outs of tarot spreads, and people swore by their accuracy. Some would even leave flowers and candles outside their favorite booths. So that’s how they got the name pre cogs, and that’s why if you try to take one of those candles home with you, you’re going to get a ceramic butterfly blade in the back.
