"Own and control your simulation." In retrospect, it was one of those catchy marketing slogans doomed to disaster. POVentures, a memory implant device that allowed the user to experience, from a true, firsthand perspective, nearly any event or sensation they could name. The popular ones were hardly any trouble; there was a wealth of resources available, but some of the more, well, unpleasant scenarios had to be purchased from actual humans that experienced it in the first place. That's what the customers were paying for. Then it came out that the programmers were using intense sensory manipulations to make the memories more immediate and vivid.
Even in this day and age, it was a scandal. No PR people would even touch them.
