Every year, to celebrate Black History Month, Nike applies distinctive African prints to a selection of sportswear shoes and apparel. After opting for a stark and elegant black and white aesthetic for the 2015 collection, color has returned in a big way for 2016. The African patterns utilized this year are vivid, multicolored affairs that offset the black, base colorway, for a collection that is both refined and vibrant.
As a new silhouette, the ultra modern Flare is less immediately familiar than some of the other shoes in the BHM collection, but as the signature model of a true all-time great in Serena Williams, it was a natural addition to the line up.
Proceeds from Nike’s BHM products benefit the Nike Ever Higher Fund, which provides charitable grants to organizations serving underprivileged communities. If a size is not listed, it is sold out.
