As would be expected with a global showcase event gathering the world’s elite athletes, shoes have figured prominently in the history of the Olympic games.
With this summer’s games in Rio just around the corner, Nike reaches back into its archive and emerges with some red, white, and blue classics.
The Air Pegasus 92 takes the running workhorse and outfits it in the Nike track & field colorway from that year’s Barcelona games. The vibrant, openness of the host city and the forward looking feeling of a new decade were reflected in the design. The sheen of the the 1980s was traded in for a traditional white, athletic base was augmented by a dark navy blue, intense red, and gold, a perfect choice for the games that would loose the Dream Team upon the world.
The Air Max BW celebrates its twentieth anniversary. Originally released for the 1996 Atlanta games, the dark navy heavy colorway, and chunky tech design are classic Nike and classic 90s. To make matters more interesting, the Air Max BW hasn’t made itself overly available since its initial heyday, so Air Max enthusiasts have an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a genuine revival.
