Pretty much all the unpleasant, physical jobs that required workers to wear denim were fully automated now. The standard industrial robot had no need for sturdy workwear, so piles and piles of newly redundant denim ended up in the hands of enterprising scavengers.
Because the price was right, all the underground, fringes of society scenes adopted denim work jackets into their looks. The lines outside all of the best clubs looked like the late shift in an East Berlin power plant.
