By the end of the 1980s, Adidas had long since established themselves as a global icon. It would be completely fair to say that for large swathes of the sportswear buying public, the three stripes were the default option for any active and/or leisure needs.
The Adidas Equipment range was established in 1991 as a reaffirmation of the core values, namely Adi Dassler’s lifelong obsession with maximizing athletic performance with specialized footwear, that turned Adidas from a Bavarian family business to, as one of the brand’s old marketing slogans went, “the world’s number one for all sports.”
Adidas Equipment was different, right down to the logo, which replaced the classic trefoil with the triangular form stripes that would eventually take over as the default Adidas mark.
Twenty-five years later, and Adidas Equipment offerings have achieved every bit the style icon status as previous technological marvels like the ZX series or the Micropacer. In fact, with the athletic inclined blend of progressive design and performance technology, the Equipment range is more popular than ever.
That’s where the Equipment ADV Support 910 comes in. This new silhouette uses classic Equipment running elements as a launching point for some ultra modern design. The stark, elegant black and white colorway, the modern text branding on the tongue, and the subtle introduction of the trefoil to the Equipment range set the tone, but they don’t tell the whole story. The shoe isn’t just lightweight minimalist, it makes use of serious high-tech performance materials like Dyneema and Kevlar. In other words, it is the original, founding spirit of Adidas Equipment, perfectly executed for 2016.
