New York City’s annual Puerto Rican Day parade is the largest celebration of Puerto Rican culture in the United States. To commemorate this year’s event, Nike has released a special edition Air Trainer 1.
The Puerto Rican flag features prominently on this shoe. Besides being embroidered on the heel, the entirety of the mesh and leather upper is done in the red, white, and blue colors of the flag. The shoe’s tongue is also a nod to Puerto Rican culture. It sports an embroidered coqui frog. The coqui, a variety of frog native to Puerto Rico, is named for the distinct nocturnal mating call that is an instantly recognizable feature of the island.
This year, you can celebrate Puerto Rican Day, even if you can’t make it to Fifth Avenue.
If a size is not listed, it is sold out.
