When it made its debut in 1978, this Vans icon was known as the Style 38, keeping with the company's number based naming system of the time. Over time, the shoe would be named after its distinguishing feature, the above the ankle, high top cut.
The durable simplicity of Vans' vulcanized rubber soles and canvas uppers were already popular among skateboarders, and the extra protection and padding, not to mention some stylish suede overlays and the addition of the Vans side stripe made the Sk8-Hi an instant classic. It's still going strong today, in pretty much every color and pattern that you can imagine.
