Puma Clyde Court X-Ray

Puma Clyde Court X-Ray

Rationally, the human skeleton shouldn’t inspire quite the level of fear response that it does. Everyone is essentially a walking skeleton covered in complicated hamburger meat, after all, so why bother getting all worked up about it? It probably has something to do with the skeleton’s long history as a memento mori. Without getting into a whole thing about symbolism and art history, a memento mori is a visual reminder that no matter who you are, how great you’re currently doing, how much power and wealth you may have accumulated, that your journey ends with a one way trip to a cemetery, no exceptions.

Just in time for All Hallow’s Eve, Puma translates this sense of existential dread to the basketball court, with the Clyde Court X-Ray. The modern update of the classic Clyde silhouette that signaled Puma’s return to the performance basketball field has been outfitted with a skeletal foot graphic across its knit upper, a memento mori of a different kind, for the competitive athlete. The specter of embarrassing posterization at the hands of a crafty opponent haunts every player that steps onto the court. The Clyde Court X-Ray has one, simple message: don’t get your ankles broken.
