Why Art Book Fairs?

Art book fairs dissolve the walls that separate institutions and young independents,  high and low brow,  internationally known and made at your home.   It's the only place where you’ll find MIT and a zine maker from Allston exhibiting together. To remove the constraints of hierarchy & present great art projects together creates opportunities and relationships that benefit everyone. There’s a sense of discovery that everyone has as they engage in all these different exhibitors that cannot be replicated on a screen. We’re also bringing a large number of artists from all over the world to exhibit just for this fair. Bodega has always been a collaborative of artists, so our second annual Boston Art Book Fair expands our creative community.
Here’s a preview of the exhibitors & presentations that we’re excited about:
Highsnobiety Panel Discussion Saturday 10/13 @ 5pm Highsnobiety Panel Discussion

With Russ Pope, Adam Jason Cohen & Oliver Mak (Bodega)

Moderated by Jian DeLeon  Saturday 10/13 @ 5pm

Highsnobiety just launched their book titled "The Incomplete Highsnobiety Guide to Street Fashion and Culture".  In this panel we discuss how print and DIY culture relate to fashion, as well as the journeys of three creatives exploring the intersection at a global brand level.

Aperture Foundation , Gallery & PublishingAPERTURE

Founded in 1952 by photographers and writers , this multi platform publisher serves as a center for the photo community, offering an annual Portfolio Prize, and with Paris Photo, an annual Photobook Award.   They operate a gallery & bookstore in NYC and continue to make innumerable contributions supporting the photo community.

DAP /Artbook- The largest distributor for Artist ImprintsD.A.P. /ARTBOOK

Want to track down that obscure Palace photobook that IDEA published for their ICA exhibition?  Look no further than D.A.P./Artbook.   They're  the largest source for art and photography monographs, artist's books and photobooks, museum exhibition catalogs.   They also deal in architecture, design, urban studies, visual culture and experimental writing.   They're the Tony Montana of international art publishing.

PROPS - Experimental Graphic design Applied to PrintPROPS

We worked with the Lucy & Matthew, the duo behind PROPS, for this year’s posters and identity.   Founded as visual experiment examining visual knowledge and design,  their weekly paper of images was one of the most forward thinking representations we saw in last year’s fair.

When we used to run our art gallery in Fenway, we hosted both of these artists in group shows and even had a solo show by Nick.   It’s been great to see them grow as artists and individuals and they’ve always made zines.   We all work together now at Bodega - Nick did the illustration in our brand emails & Matt is in charge of marketing for digital channels.
