Organized by Boston Center for the Arts and Bodega, the inaugural Boston Art Book Fair is an innovative event where international and local artists, thinkers, collectors, publishers and anyone drawn to the rich intersection of text and image convene to celebrate and trade print in all forms—including art books, zines, prints, catalogs and analog recordings.

The Boston Art Book Fair brings together exhibitors and collectors for a full weekend of presentations and programming that facilitates progressive discourse and encourages publishers and patrons at all levels to embrace print as a celebration of the cultural vanguard.

 

PREVIEW HIGHLIGHTS

With over 50 cutting-edge print creators exhibiting at the inaugural Boston Art Book Fair (October 20-21st),  there’s a vast amount of projects and artists to peruse. Here are some of the most notable ones we’ve come across.

 

8-Ball Community - 2015 Site Installation Tokyo - Lele Saveri

8-Ball Community:   In the Black Box Theatre, screenings, panels, zines and community programming will be hosted & documented by 8-Ball Community - a non-profit volunteer based community of artists that has become a mainstay at art events around the globe. 8-ball’s Newsstand Installation was recently at MoMa NYC and now is exhibiting at Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris. The Boston Art Book Fair marks 8-ball’s first exhibition in Boston.

Art Vandelay Press is a publishing project focused on exploring the ideas of archive and collection as well as the accumulation and subsequent loss of information over time.  Each issue of the AV project is composed of a zine and a tape, both of which display the work of a single artist.  Above - Dark Level, Juila Norton

Anthology Editions (BK)    Anthology Editions is a leading publisher exploring pop culture heritage across multiple genres and forms. Reissues of Pharaoh Sanders Jazz LPs, photo books of London punks in 1976  and a compilation of the Imaginary Concerts project by Peter Coffin, are key highlights from their catalogue - which is being presented in Boston for the first time at the Boston Art Book Fair.

Kaws- Where The End StartsDistributed Art Publishers (D.A.P.) is America's premier source for books on twentieth century art, photography, design and aesthetic culture. Catherine Losing , 2017

Aperture was founded in 1952 by photographers and writers as "common ground for the advancement of photography". Today, Aperture is a multi-platform publisher and center for the photo community producing a quarterly magazine, between twelve and fifteen new photobooks annually as well as a regular exhibitions, limited editions, digital publishing and an annual Portfolio prize.
